Daily Mail 5-1-11: Suffolk Icons - Broomhill Pool makes second place.

Tourism chiefs who carried out an online poll to find Suffolk's greatest icon were left red-faced after the vote was won by the lead singer of a 'black metal' band.

Choose Suffolk asked for residents' favourites photos of the county, expecting images of picturesque landscapes, seaside resorts and local heroes like the late Sir Bobby Robson to help promote the area as an attractive tourist destination.

But bosses were left embarrassed when Dani Filth, the lead singer of notorious rock act Cradle of Filth, polled six times as many votes as the next most popular Suffolk icon.

Dani Filth, 37, received 13,025 votes on the Suffolk Icons poll, with the public voting the Broomhill swimming pool - a near derelict 1930s former lido in Ipswich - into second place with 2,055 votes.
