YAHOO.CO.UK 5-1-11: Suffolk Icons - Broomhill Pool makes second place.

Black metal band Cradle of Filth have topped an online poll carried out by tourism chiefs to find Suffolk's most iconic image.

The group, whose lead singer Dani Filth is from the area, triumphed with 13,025 votes - more than six times as many as the Broomhill swimming pool in Ipswich, which came second.

Other nominations included more traditional images such as beach huts and landscapes, as well as more of the area's well-known figures including former England manager Sir Bobby Robson and music producer Brian Eno.

The poll was carried out by tourist organisation Choose Suffolk, which asked people to submit photographs of their favourite Suffolk icons in a bid to promote the region.

Despite their success in the poll, Cradle of Filth have been omitted from the final shortlist of 20 images.

Speaking about the decision, Tim Passmore, the interim chief executive of Choose Suffolk, said: "The finalist icons have been selected because the judging panel believe they have a countywide resonance and are symbolic of Suffolk, and extend across the county and beyond its borders.
